Peter Bredin specialises in Litigation and Dispute Resolution and Contentious Regulatory Issues.

Peter advises clients in disputes arising from financial services, business relations, professional duties, fraud, and insurance coverage. He has acted for State bodies, financial institutions, companies and individuals in court proceedings, arbitration and mediation. He advises on inquiries and investigations and is a member of the firm’s Regulatory Investigations team.

Peter is a member of the International Bar Association (IBA), the Commercial Litigation Association of Ireland (CLAI), the Defence Research Institute (DRI) and the Professional Negligence Lawyers' Association (PNLA). He is a regular contributor to publications on the topics of litigation funding, fraud and asset recovery.

Peter’s representative matters include:

  • Acting for lenders, investment funds, receivers and NAMA in High Court and Commercial Court proceedings against debtors and guarantors including bringing and defending applications for injunctive relief.
  • Acting for a bank in the successful defence of a landmark challenge to the enforcement of loans which had been securitised.
  • Acting in court applications made under personal insolvency legislation.
  • Acting in court applications for approval of schemes of arrangement under the Companies Act 2014.
  • Advising insurers in relation to a range of coverage matters including business interruption in the context of Covid-19.
  • Advising the professional indemnity insurers of a solicitor struck off the Roll of Solicitors in relation to a range of claims and coverage issues including issues of fraud.
  • Advising clients in relation to Directors and Officers insurance policies.
  • Acting for a company in a dispute with the Central Bank of Ireland before the Irish Financial Services Appeals Tribunal.
  • Advising individuals in relation to fitness and probity matters raised by the Central Bank of Ireland.
  • Advising witnesses in relation to a Commission of Investigation.
  • Acting for landlords and tenants in relation to issues arising under leases, including the right to quiet enjoyment in the context of proposed development of a neighbouring property, and the enforcement of payment obligations in the context of Covid-19.
  • Acting for a vehicle manufacturer in the defence of a substantial claim relating to the supply of components used in a fleet of emergency vehicles.
  • Acting for clients in the defence of product liability claims.
  • Acting for a client in the fintech sector in a dispute with a payment services provider.
  • Acting for a state body in a wide range of disputes including multiple judicial reviews.
  • Acting for a semi-State body in an arbitration of a dispute arising from a commercial joint venture.
  • Acting for a US-based individual in a challenge to the provision of evidence in Ireland for criminal proceedings in Italy pursuant to a request for mutual legal assistance.
  • Advising employers on health and safety matters including investigations.
  • Acting for a party to proceedings in the United States in a deposition of a witness in Ireland pursuant to a request for international judicial assistance made by way of letters rogatory under the Foreign Tribunals Evidence Act 1856.
