John O'Riordan works in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution department where is a partner in the Commercial Litigation team. As part of that team John specialises in advice in relation to business disputes, financial services litigation, regulatory investigations, fraud and asset recovery and insurance disputes.
John’s specialist expertise includes: financial services and banking litigation; shareholder disputes; fraud, mis-selling claims; advising clients through the Central Bank administrative sanctions procedure; appearing before the Irish Financial Services Appeals Tribunal; enforcing foreign arbitral awards; and property and vessel damage claims.
His clients include national and international corporations, banks and financial institutions, insurers and individuals. He is highly experienced in all types of High Court proceedings and also represents clients in arbitration and mediation.
John’s representative transactions include:
- Advising parties in high profile commercial court proceedings arising from a dispute involving the shareholders of Web Summit.
- Advising on the defence of a breach if warranty claim.
- Advising parties through the Central Bank's Administrative Sanctions Procedure, up to and including reaching a settlement with the Bank.
- Acting for an Irish regulated fund in a Commercial Court application pursuant to the Investment Intermediaries Act, 1995.
- Advising an Irish regulated fund on a dispute in relation to the potentially fraudulent dissipation of assets.
- Acting for the Motor Insurers' Bureau of Ireland in proceedings arising from the collapse of Setanta Insurance.
- Acting for Irish and international financial institutions in the reversal of fraudulent asset transfers.
- Advising on the enforcement and recognition of a foreign arbitral award of almost USD 280m under the Arbitration Act, 2010 in the Commercial Court.
