Jamie is a Partner who leads our Restructuring and Insolvency practice. He acts for insolvency practitioners, secured and unsecured creditors, companies, shareholders and directors in all aspects of restructuring and insolvency, including; examinerships, Part 9 schemes of arrangements, receiverships, liquidations, SCARPs and bankruptcies.

"Jamie also represents domestic and foreign banks as well as non-bank lenders in relation to their security enforcement and distressed asset recovery actions. He has extensive experience in complex litigation before the superior courts arising from those restructuring or insolvency mandates.

Jamie lectures on corporate restructurings in the Law Society of Ireland’s Professional Practice course. He has contributed to a number of publications, including co-authoring the Irish chapter of the Asset Tracing and Recovery Review and the Irish chapter of the Lexology, Restructuring & Insolvency GTDT guide 2023. Jamie is consistently endorsed and ranked as a leading individual in his field in the current editions of Chambers Europe, IFLR 1000 and Legal 500.

Representative transactions include having advised or advising:

  • A global aircraft operating lessor headquartered in Singapore in obtaining judgment in excess of US$ 400m in the Commercial Court against a Dutch registered, Russian owned cargo-airline and logistics company arising from the repatriation of aircraft to Russia in breach of grounding orders and lease obligations, together with obtaining a worldwide freezing order and the appointment of a receiver over shares in aid of execution of the judgment. He is also acting for the court appointed share receiver.
  • The court appointed liquidator to a company which imported high-end luxury vehicles into the Irish market in Commercial Court proceedings claiming fraud (Missing Trader Intra-Community VAT fraud) against former directors which have resulted in a successful settlement of those proceedings.
  • The examiner in the Bombay Pantry examinership which was the first examinership scheme to receive court sanction under the new examinership regime following enactment of the European Union (Preventive Restructuring) Regulations 2022.
  • A syndicate of international institutional secured lenders to Nordic Aviation Capital (largest regional aircraft lessor in the world) in relation to the Irish aspects of NAC’s restructuring through chapter 11 in the US.
  • An indenture trustee with respect to a series of guaranteed noteholders claims in the examinership of Mallinckrodt Plc (noteholders claims of c. USD $1 billion).
  • A number of creditors in the examinership of Norwegian Air.
  • The security trustee for several series of unsecured notes totalling approximately USD $7.4 billion in the examinership of Weatherford International Plc.
  • The investor in the examinership of Compu b.
  • The purchaser of the assets of USIT group out of liquidation.
  • NAMA on the insolvency aspects of a number of its loan portfolio sales, including Project Arch, Project Emerald / Ruby and Project Gem.
  • NAMA appointed statutory receiver over a large redevelopment site located in the centre of a provincial city.
  • Goldman Sachs, CarVal, Lone Star and Deutsche Bank on the insolvency aspects of their acquisition of a number of loan portfolios.
  • A US institutional creditor in the bankruptcy of Sir Anthony O’Reilly, including with regard to associated litigation in Ireland arising from his bankruptcy in the Bahamas.
