David Kavanagh specialises in Litigation and Dispute Resolution and has particular expertise in defamation and media law.
David represents insurers and companies in defending personal injury actions, including road traffic accidents, employer liability and public liability claims and product liability claims.
He is an expert in defamation and media law, advising media organisations for over a decade in a broad range of issues from defamation, privacy, contempt to pre-publication issues.
David has specialist knowledge in transport, maritime and admiralty law. He regularly represents ship owners, insurers, clubs and companies involved at each stage of the logistics chain. David is the treasurer and an executive committee member of the Irish Maritime Law Association.
He is a member of the board of directors of Just Sport Ireland, and is a member of the Dublin Solicitors’ Bar Association.
David’s representative transactions include advising:
- A national newspaper on the first application for a declaratory order under s28 of the Defamation Act 2009.
- A national newspaper on the application of the Statute of Limitations.
- A national newspaper in relation to pre-publication issues, including defamation, contempt, data protection and privacy issues.
- The owner of the MV Clipper Faith on its arrest and subsequent auction of the vessel.
- A national newspaper on its right to publish under the Child Care Acts.
