Breeda Cunningham is a Director and Head of the Regulatory and Compliance Department.

Breeda advises financial services clients on regulatory and compliance matters. Her clients include fund service providers, asset managers, insurance companies and investment intermediaries. She sits on the Irish Funds AML Group and regularly delivers training sessions to clients on a range of topics including AML, data protection and corporate governance. Breeda trained as a Chartered Accountant with one of the Big Four, is a former Head of Compliance for one of the largest insurance brokers in Ireland, and has several years’ internal audit experience in retail insurance.

Breeda’s representative transactions include advising:

  • Clients establishing businesses in Ireland – such as asset managers and investment advisers – on the Central Bank of Ireland authorisation process. Advice includes developing business plans, operational policies and procedures, and responding to queries raised by the Central Bank.
  • Asset managers, investment managers and insurance companies on the Markets in Financial instrument regulations (MiFID), Capital Adequacy requirements (including remuneration rules), Investor Money Regulations and the Solvency II Regulations.
  • On compliance with the Corporate Governance Codes, including developing appropriate internal policies and procedures and compliance checklists.
  • On updating client compliance policies following guidance by the Central Bank, including cyber security and conflicts of interest policies.
  • On the Acquiring Transactions Notification process – liaising with the Central Bank on behalf of clients.
  • On Central Bank themed inspections (such as the AML Themed Inspection) – assisting clients in responding to the Central Bank following an inspection.
