Media and Entertainment

Our media team has worked with some of Ireland’s largest media organisations for more than 25 years advising on all aspects of their fast-moving businesses, including disputes.

We understand the dynamic, challenging and competitive media environment and provide business-focused, commercial solutions to meet our clients’ complex needs.

We have a strong track record of acting for clients in defamation claims, privacy claims and contempt claims. We provide pre-publication advice to national daily and Sunday newspapers – a pre-emptive strategy focusing on identifying and minimising the potential for defamation, contempt of court and breaches of privacy.

In recent years our team has increasingly been asked to advise on issues arising from publication on the internet and on social media platforms and has developed considerable experience in this evolving area of media and privacy law.

Our experience includes advising:

  • On day-to-day pre-publication advice to national newspapers.
  • Defending the Irish Daily Mirror against a claim of defamation in the case of Watson v Adelina Campos & MGN Ltd t/a Irish Daily Mirror.
  • Advising a client on the right to report on proceedings in the family court.
  • Advising a client on the removal of content from various search engines and social media forums.
